The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute’s Annual Report for 2010 is now available online.

As the pressures on natural resources intensify, creating land use systems which satisfy societal needs without compromising environmental sustainability is a fundamental global challenge. Our research is firmly focussed on achieving this goal and our Annual Report contains examples of our work on land use, climate change, water management, recreational use of Scotland’s landscapes, renewable energy, and soil health.

Good science lies at the heart of the Institute’s business. Our aim is to support the protection of natural resources by providing policy makers, and those who use the land, with the evidence necessary to inform environmental and rural development policy and practice not only here in Scotland, but also internationally.

Whilst the general economic climate is affecting us all I am pleased to be able to report that the last few years have seen significant growth in our income allowing us to invest in the long-term development of the Institute.
