The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and SCRI joined forces on 1 April 2011 to create The James Hutton Institute. It is the first Institute of its type in Europe and will make major, new contributions to the understanding of key global issues such as food, energy and environmental security.

Villagers from India, Pakistan, China and Tibet will be given the opportunity to present the problems they face in managing natural resources such as water and fodder for livestock, directly to senior policy-makers and scientists, as well as government representatives from their own countries, at a unique three-day workshop hosted by The Macaulay Institute, taking place in Aviemore this week from 18th to 20th April.
